In the Peete v. Peete (2023) case, a couple separated in 1975 after four years of marriage. The husband obtained a formal divorce in 1991, remarried, and passed away in 2007. In 2011, the first wife contested the validity of the second marriage, arguing that the divorce was not handled properly, making the second marriage, in her view, bigamous. She sought an annulment of the second marriage and claimed a share of the husband's pension.
