Even after a relatively smooth divorce process, co-parenting with your ex-spouse is never an easy task. When going through a divorce, you naturally want to create distance from your ex-spouse. But the requirements of parenthood compel you to maintain frequent contact with your ex-partner. Additionally, co-parenting also presents plenty of logistical challenges. For instance, there is the problem of coordinating schedules, which can be difficult for parents who have certain professional backgrounds. Suppose one parent is a surgeon who needs to maintain a certain level of availability. This parent must be able to contact the other parent immediately in case there's an unexpected work call. Furthermore, expense tracking can also be challenging for parents, so devices that can assist in this may be extremely valuable.

Fortunately, in this digital era, numerous apps have been developed for the specific purpose of helping co-parents navigate these murky waters. We’ve talked about some of these apps in the past, and today we’d like to discuss a few more.

#1: FamCal App

Short for “Family Calendar,” the app known as “FamCal” is an excellent tool that can assist with intrafamilial communication. Although they did not design this app specifically for co-parents, co-parents can easily utilize it. For example, FamCal allows multiple users to share calendars for the purpose of coordinating disparate schedules; this, in turn, can facilitate better communication and collaboration, particularly for larger families involving 3 or more children. You can color-code calendars, which adds to their readability and ease of use.The base version of the app is free, but upgrades can also be accessed with a purchase.

#2: OurFamilyWizard App

OurFamilyWizard is one of the more popular apps and is an app that was created by a divorced couple designed to foster harmonious relations between co-parents, and also to help parents keep track of important dates and contacts. Each parent creates his or her own separate account, and then account holders can interface with each other. Accountholders can add any number of contacts – they can add their children, their ex-spouse, grandparents, therapists, counselors, attorneys, mediators, and so forth. The app allows communication between accountholders via direct messaging, and even includes a special “ToneMeter” (optional) which monitors wording in messaging. Similar to a spellchecker, the ToneMeter will automatically recognize wording that may have a negative tone and suggest alternative wording; this decreases the probability of an argument. The app also records messaging, which may be useful in a future court proceeding.

#3: Coparently App

Coparently is an app designed specifically for co-parents and provides an array of tools to improve communication, scheduling, expense tracking, contact management, and other functions. Co-parents can use the app, but children can also download the app and communicate directly with parents, make requests, give schedule updates, and so forth. Coparently comes with a free trial period, but the current standard rate is $9.99 per month per parent or $99 per year if paid in advance.
